The Concept Paper on Organizational Behavior

Name and author of the book/ story:

The novel or the storybook named as “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” written by Neil Gaiman. The story is about a little boy who lives in rural areas of England i.e. middle-century rural England. The book describes the struggle in between the neighbors and an evil spirit, which wants to take earth’s residence by force. The novel is considered as the most frightening and beautiful fairy tale.

Furthermore, he had a decent life. Our Hero was a scholarly kid, inventive and smart to a degree of daringness. Yet, not all was essentially well at home; to keep up installments on the property, his guardians took in tenants, compelling him to impart to his sister and leasing his old room. One guest incidentally slaughters his feline, however, and when said tenant turns up dead, that is the point at which little boy meets Lettie Hempstock. Lettie is eleven; quicker witted and taller, and little boy needs to know even more about him.

Name of the character:

The name of the main character is never mentioned in the book but reverently quoted as the “Handsome George”. The boy escapes from the funeral of his mother or father and finds a way to his old house or homes, which were demolished into flat blocks. As the boy continued his walk through them, he finds himself in the memories of that lace.

OB concept (behavior, theory, principle, etc)

The major contributing principle discussed in the story of Organizational behavior is the human psychology. The organizational behavior is specifically a management concern and should be seen based on an organization but the story also explains different characteristics on the individual basis. The human psychology explains the measurement of human behaviors in certain scenarios.

 Like in the story when the kids have to be with their caretaker women because, his mother finds a new job. The main character finds it as frightening and escaped from his house. The story defines the factors of human psychology such as emotions, personality trait, motivation, learning, etc.  

The personality trait of the boy has been showing the emotion, behavior and cognition. This concept is been taken or determining the relationship of his personal trait with the performance or his curiosity to find the way out. The occurrence of different events in his mother’s non-presence has been a distracting figure for the little boy as his father was having affair with the woman. The Ursula the caretaker for the kids in their mother absence was alike with the concepts of evil in the mind of the story main character.   

The organizational theory associated with the current story would be the Hierarchy of Needs Theory, which could be defined as the need of a person for self-actualization, esteem, social, safety, physiological factors or need aspects. On the off chance, that inspiration is driven by the presence of unsatisfied needs, and then it is advantageous for a chief to comprehend which needs are the more vital for individual representatives. In this respect, Abraham Maslow built up a model in which fundamental, low-level needs, for example, physiological necessities and security must be fulfilled before larger amount needs, for example, fulfillment toward oneself are sought after. In this progressive model, when a need is for the most part fulfilled it no more persuades and the following higher need takes its place. (Reid-Cunningham, 2008)

Explanation of Needs from the Maslow’s point of view:

Physiological Needs

As indicated by Maslow’s hypothesis, when the specific needs are not fulfilled then one could be inspired in order to fulfill them on urgent basis like in the case of the story where the boy wants cherish his memories while fighting with the internal fears of evil. Higher needs, for example, social needs and regard are not felt until one has addressed the needs fundamental to one’s real working. (Abahe.co.uk, 2012)

Security

When the physiological needs are attained then the person would swings to security and safety with a specific end goal, which is to be free from the risk of enthusiastic damage and physical. As indicated by Maslow’s chain of command, if an individual like the little boy feels that he or she is in hurt’s direction, higher needs will not get much consideration.

Social Needs

When an individual has met the lower level of wellbeing needs and physiological, then most of the importance could be made for the social needs of a person, which is the relationship of that boy with the girl. Social needs are those identified with connection with other individuals and may include:

  • Need for companions
  • Need for having a place
  • Need to get  and give love

Like the boy had a feeling of “having a place”, the need to feel imperative emerges. Regardless of the fact that the needs might be the interior or outside needs of a person. Interior regard needs are those identified with view toward oneself, for example, accomplishment and self-confidence. Outer regard needs are those, for example, societal position and acknowledgment. Some regard needs are:

  • Confidence
  • Achievement
  • Attention
  • Recognition
  • Reputation

Maslow later refined his model to incorporate a level between regard needs and acknowledgment toward oneself: the requirement for feel and information. Consummation toward oneself is the summit of Maslow’s progression of necessities. It is the journey of coming to one’s maximum capacity as an individual like, the boy in the story has done. The lower level needs, which could not be fulfilled due to the development of boys mentality about the affair of his father and Ursula, whereas there are constantly new chances in this perspective, which is to keep on growing. Finished toward oneself individuals have a tendency to have needs, for example,

  • Truth
  • Justice
  • Wisdom
  • Meaning
